The Pivot of Love
By Sandra Franke
This book and the twenty-two paintings therein, constitutes two years of work and study. The paintings are abstract in nature but are based on authentic research of the four Gospels of the New Testament of the Bible. Each painting corresponds to a biblical passage where Mary Magdalene appears, searching for her true story from authentic texts. Each event with Mary Magdalene is based on the four Gospels ofMatthew, Mark, Luke or John, as noted on the corresponding page with each painting.
But it goes beyond the Bible, especially for those who are not inclined towards scriptural texts. The Pivot of Love is something which happens in all our lives. Love isa strong force which can change one’s life. It can pivot you towards something better. This is what I think happened as Jesus developed his ministry in his short time on this earth. He fell, unpredictably, in love with Mary Magdalene as he wept with her at Lazarus’s tomb. Even he changed, focusing on the force of love in his life and those around him. He left preaching about sin behind him, and love is seen as a force which can conquer sin. He went from the ascetic ministry of John the Baptist to a more sensual one of love, encompassing non-Jewish people as well into the fold. Each painting has two titles , a secular one and a biblical one, both about love. The viewer can read whichever one pleases them as they view the paintings. Hopefully this book and show at Gallery 1313, Toronto, will help you meditate on the value of love in your life.
